Travel Tips for Families On the Go

Making a Hotel Room a Home

For those of us who travel a lot, hotels can become pretty tiring.

I've picked up a few tricks over time to make a hotel room much more hospitable.

1. Bring along a sarong or other length of fabric to use as both a beach/bath wrap and also to spread over the bed between times to cheer up the room.

2. Hang a scarf around the outside of the lampshade (not over it) to soften the light and create more atmosphere.

3. Carry a small reading light. Few hotels provide adequate ones.

4. Bring a small plug-in tea kettle, a mug, and your favorite hot beverages, like hot chocolate in envelopes, a tiny coffee, sugar and creamer, tea bags, both herbal and regular, bouillon cubes or other emergency rations.
