Pacific States |
California is one large state that covers a number of types of destinations for your family to choose from. We'll start at the south and head north, and then go out-of-state north into Oregon and Washington.
San Diego was the first town to grow in California following the arrival of Europeans, and its mission-Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala-was the first in the string of 21 missions up the Camino Real. As the territory and then state grew, the hub of activity moved northward out of San Diego. But for the last 100 years San Diego has been putting itself back on the map.

Bluegrass Country |
Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia bridge several worlds, from the Appalachian Mountains to the east to the Mississippi River on the west. In between are the major cities of Knoxville, Louisville, Nashville, Charleston, Chattanooga and Memphis. Each has a unique flavor and good reasons for a visit.
Many defining periods in the U.S. history are reflected in Bluegrass and Appalachian country-this was Cherokee country and the beginning of the Trail of Tears; the Appalachian and Smoky Mountains evoke the early settlers and pioneer days...

Tips for Families on the Go |
-
If the effort of packing up the family for an overnight stay is too much to face, why not try "Daytripping"? Plan a trip around places that you wish to see in your area, but never seem to find the time to get there, such as an historic site, or a downtown museum, which both take an hour to get to with traffic.
- To fully benefit from this mini-expedition, you need to treat it as a vacation. Plan ahead. Pack up everything you need the night before for morning reveille.
- Plan to arrive at your destination mid- to late-morning. If the locale is inviting, you might bring a picnic (packed up the night before), or if the dining sounds promising, plan to eat lunch at a local restaurant. Museum restaurants are often fun and entertaining for the whole family to enjoy.
- Stay in vacation mode on Sunday. That means no work, and no projects. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how rested you feel after your mini weekend getaway, and what a good time you and the kids have had together.

Autumn colors, the leaves turning oh so rapidly, the time is changing and it's getting darker. To me, that means it's time to brighten up! A really great way to do so is with the color of the season. Orange, whether pumpkin, azenia, carrot stick or turmeric is a color that spells optimism and energy. If you love orange, like me, what does it say about you? You're likely "outgoing, creative, expressive and young at heart," says Colorstrology author and founder of myinnerworld.com, Michelle Berhardt.
