SOUTH OF THE BORDER
TRAVEL SOUTH OF THE BORDER FOR A FAMILY ADVENTURE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON WITH GENERATIONS TOURING COMPANY
The holidays are a time for family gatherings, often with multiple generations coming together to celebrate the season. One way for families to connect is through travel, sharing in a unique experience, while also developing an understanding of the world. This holiday season, intergenerational travel specialist, Generations Touring Company (GTC), is featuring three of the most bio-rich places in the world for grandparents, parents and kids to choose from: The Galapagos, Costa Rica and Baja, Mexico.
|The company's Galapagos: Footprints of Life program begins in Quito with a city tour and visit to "La Mitad del Mundo" (the middle of the world), located in the village of San Antonio. Here, families can stand with one foot in each hemisphere before visiting the trapezium stone monument and the Museo Etnogr∑fico and Inti-čan, located at the Equator. Next, families fly to Baltras and board the m/v Galapagos Legend for a 5-day cruise of the Galapagos Islands. Along the itinerary, passengers disembark in pangas to examine the unique ecosystem of seals, turtles and giant tortoises and observe the variety of animals that were the basis for Darwin's Origin of the Species such as dragon-like iguanas, blue-footed boobies and Galapagos penguins. The 8-day journey departs December 21, 2004, with rates starting at $2,999.00 per adult, $2,199.00 per child and includes all gratuities, meals, tours, accommodations and events plus the services of the GTC tour guide. Early booking and group discounts are available.
Just as rich in biodiversity, the rainforests of Costa Rica are home to more than 850 species of colorful birds, 200 species of mammals, 1,100 exotic orchids and 9,000 species of trees and plants. On GTC's Costa Rica: An Indigenous Odyssey, families explore deep into the rainforest of Tortuguero National Park, where toucans, macaws, howler monkeys and many more indigenous creatures are found. The 8-day trip begins in San Jose and features a ride high above the rainforest, enjoying spectacular views while gliding through the canopy in an open gondola. Later, the group will visit the National Institute of Biodiversity's INBioparque, with trails that take visitors past live interactive exhibits featuring all sorts of interesting life forms including frogs, tarantulas, bees, ants, orchids, and butterflies. Families also have opportunities to explore deep into the rainforest by canoe, kayak or hydro bike plus enjoy an exciting white water rafting excursion in the Orosi Valley.
An important aspect of all of GTC's trips is an opportunity to experience as a family the culture of a region. In Costa Rica, the group will spend time with local children, visiting their school and perhaps playing a game of soccer, and later helping to prepare a traditional Caribbean meal. The Costa Rica: An Indigenous Odyssey departs December 20, 2004, with rates starting at $2,399.00 per person and includes all gratuities, meals, tours accommodations and events plus the services of the GTC tour guide. Early booking and group discounts are available.
Located on the Mexican coast of Baja California Sur, the capital city of La Paz is a unique combination of desert, ocean, rich culture and tranquility. This is where GTC's 7-day Baja: Beyond Beautiful program begins, where families learn the history and culture of the region, enjoy a meal with a local La Paz family, snorkel in the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez, learn to scuba dive in the Discover Scuba Diving program, enjoy sea kayaking in the calm waters of Bahia de La Paz, and swim with sea lions at Los Islotes. The program departs December 20, 2004 with rates starting at $1,899.00 per person and includes all gratuities, meals, accommodations, tours and events plus the services of the GTC tour guide. Early booking and group discounts are available.
