The Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.
Rainforest Alliance also supports and promotes certification in sustainable tourism as a tool for improvement and market competitiveness and we work together with local certification schemes form the countries we are working with. We are leading the Sustainable Tourism Certification Network of the Americas as a way of facilitating the communication between programs and also standardize a minimum of criteria acceptable in order to be part of the network and recognized as a verifiable program. We are currently working in the second edition of a catalog that includes all the certified businesses in the continent.

Travel Tip For Today
Bring one pair of comfortable walking shoes as well as a pair of sandals or Tevas. Before you leave home, break in your new shoes so you're not uncomfortable on the road.

May is upon us!

I just returned from Alexandria Virginia where I attended our new distributor (NBN) conference, we are so glad to be working with them. They are one of the largest distributers in US, Canada and Spanish speaking world. Their representatives include Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Walden Books all of which are very enthusiastic about the B&B guide!

Being in Alexandria during the Cherry Blossom festival was absolutely incredible. This small city dating from 1600, once home to our nations capital and many illustrious figures, the revolutionary days are incredibly well restored while still maintaining a fresh and modern feel, which makes for an absolute marvelous juxtaposition. The blossoms were out in full force, not just cherries but dogwood, red bud, apple and more.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Peake-Fairfax House B&B where my host Chet and Dot Negles filled me in on the background of their incredible 4-story federal building and served me wonderful, all natural breakfast in their beautiful dining room, which was once the operating theatre for Alexandria position, but I was feeling no pain!"

Each morning I took a walk at dawn to take in the incredible sights of the river lazily flow by, gilding in the morning sun. Violets are one of my favorite flowers and I found a bed of them growing right on the banks of the river. One of the great joys of my job, as the director of Bed and Breakfast Inns and Guesthouses International, is traveling and meeting fabulous innkeepers from all over.
I hope you all are enjoying your spring garden and spring travel.
Best,
Pamela

Thank you that is such wonderful advice...we too have had many family vacations that have started out with trips to explore possible new colleges and have ended up being such fun with all our family involved. You can certainly see some wonderful and unexpected sights on these road trips.

Thank you Pamela for all your ideas. You have inspired my wife and I to take a long road trip this summer while taking our son to his new college. We are planning a different route there this time and hope to take in the many wonderful sights along the way there.
