THE WESTIN RESORT
Two Grasslawn Avenue
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29928
Since its opening in October 1985, The Westin Resort, Hilton Head Island, has become of one America's classic seaside resorts, a destination where discriminating travelers can find a relaxing refuge from life's everyday hassles, or a hub of fast-paced recreational activities.
Hilton Head Island is the largest barrier island between New Jersey and Florida, with a land mass approximately 12 miles by 7 miles. Located on the Intracoastal Waterway, the island encompasses vast sea marshes, networks of creeks and lagoons, and forest heavily wooded with moss-draped live oaks, magnolias, pines and palmettos. 12 miles of sandy, hard-packed beaches front the Atlantic Ocean. Wildlife preserves make the island home to countless species of birds and animals, including the familiar alligator.
Located on 24 acres overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, The Resort's classical architecture is reminiscent of the grand seaside hotels of the turn of the century. Designed to complement the historical Southern port cities of nearby Charleston and Savannah, The Westin Resort combines the traditional charm of the Georgia-South Carolina "Low Country" with the relaxed atmosphere of Hilton Head Island.
The Resort is a 45-minute drive from Savannah, Georgia, and a 2-hour drive from Charleston, South Carolina. The Hilton Head Island Airport handles small private planes and some commuter flights.
The award-winning central courtyard of the 5-story, U-shaped hotel features waterfalls, reflecting pools, landscaped gardens, decks and terraces along with one indoor and two outdoor swimming pools. A wide boardwalk leads from the pool deck across sandy dunes covered with sea oats to the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean just steps away.
The wide portico of the entrance opens to the gracious lobby which features light oak floors covered with oriental rugs. Antiques and large brass chandeliers highlight several comfortable seating areas. The Red Piano Gallery, located on the mezzanine overlooking the lobby, features works by some of the most important artists of the region.
The interior design concept utilizes polished woods, soft fabrics and tapestries, oriental porcelains, and area rugs to create a residential feeling characteristic of the homes of the "Old South."
Each of the 410 guest rooms, including 30 suites, has a private balcony and generous seating area, decorated in traditional floral patterns to complement the prints of the draperies and coverlet on the beds. The pine armoire contains the remote-controlled television and additional storage. Special amenities in each room include stocked refreshment pantries, safes and elegantly appointed baths complete with hairdryers and telephones.
The Westin Resort caters to every taste with three restaurants, two lounges and room service. For dinner in THE BARONY GRILL, guests enjoy specialties of the South Carolina Low Country prepared by the Resort's award-winning Chef and his staff. The cozy hunt club atmosphere of The Barony Grill is a comfortable place to enjoy impeccable service, fine wines and the very best in beef and seafood.
Warm smiles and friendly faces make the CAROLINA CAFE a delightful place - morning, noon and night - and a wide selection of foods offers something to please every member of the family. The Island's Best Seafood Buffet is served nightly and the Sunday Brunch, with more than 100 of the Chef's favorite dishes, has become a tradition of both islanders and guests.
Light fare such as salads, sandwiches and homemade ice cream in freshly-baked cones, along with refreshing beverages, are favorites during the season at the PELICAN POOLSIDE SNACK BAR. Umbrella tables are available, or guests may be served at their lounge chairs by the pools. The tropical air is filled each Summer afternoon with the mellow beat of Reggae music from the steel band.
Just above the Poolside Snack Bar, the PLAYFUL PELICAN LOUNGE overlooks the pools, courtyard, and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Ceiling fans circle overhead as the bartender creates exotic cocktails. The Playful Pelican offers summertime suppers, cool beverages and live entertainment, making this one of the island's favorite night spots.
THE GAZEBO is a decidedly friendly place, just off the lobby. Sink into comfortable sofas and lounge chairs for cocktails and conversation. During cooler months, Afternoon Tea is served by the fire.
From breads and pastries warm from the oven, to soups and sauces always from fresh stock, to smoked meats and delicate seafoods, dining at The Westin Resort is an experience to be remembered. * * * Children under 10 years dine free with their parents in CAROLINA CAFE and from ROOM SERVICE.
