THE WESTIN RESORT

An innovative and experiential program of recreation, activities and a colorful mascot named "Westy" make The Westin Resort, Hilton Head Island, a great place for family vacations.
Today parents want their children to learn about and experience the world around them. "Camp Wackatoo is fun and educational, but definitely fun!" said Anthony M. Cherone, General Manager of the AAA Five-Diamond resort.
Offered in full- or half-day programs, Monday through Friday, with a T-shirt and water bottle as souvenirs. Activities include lessons in sign language, karate, cooking, arts and crafts, discussions on other cultures, safety swimming in the resort's three swimming pools and sand-castle building on the beach.
The fire department, the police and the emergency medical teams visit regularly to talk about safety and to show the children their different vehicles. "Our Earthlings Program concentrates on taking care of our earth," says Chrissie Balicki, activities director. "The children have even planted vegetables and flowers in the 'Camp Wackatoo Earthlings' Victory Garden'."
Keeping watch over all the children at the resort is a bright yellow bird in tennis shoes. "Westy, the Wacky Wackatoo, is our camp mascot, and he's everywhere," states Ms. Balicki. When the 'fully-grown' Westy wanders about the hotel, he's a definite hit with all ages!"
The program runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The Westin Resort sits on a 24-acre historic site overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and is one of only two oceanfront AAA Five-Diamond rated resorts on the East Coast. The Westin offers 412 guest rooms, including 30 suites, each with private balcony. Modified guest rooms and special services are available for guests with disabilities. Spacious, casually elegant one- and two-bedroom villas are also within the resort complex.|
