Telluride is a National Historic District located at the base of North America's most beautiful ski area. Situated in the heart of the greatest concentration of 14,000 foot mountains in the United States, Victorian homes painted in pastel colors of the rainbow frame the small, southwestern Colorado town filled with unique Rocky Mountain spirit.

Telluride has many unique activities and events for children and families year-round.

TELLURIDE SKI SCHOOL

Whether an expert skier yearning to tame the extreme, or a first-timer hoping to just make it down the mountain, the Telluride Ski School helps skiers achieve those aspirations. Instructors teach and refine experiences for all levels and ages, in all disciplines including alpine or Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and telemarking, all of which take place amid Telluride's inspiring mountain backdrop.

The 150-member, PSIA-certified Telluride Ski School offers a variety of specialty programs designed to mix learning with fun. With a reputation for some of the finest steeps and bumps, Telluride challenges skiers to master the mountain. The mountain's hidden jewel lies in its 1,050 acres of segregated terrain. As skiers ski from east to west on the mountain, the terrain gradually changes from expert to intermediate to beginner. The Telluride Ski School offers classes for every age and ability.

TELLURIDE CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS

The Telluride Children's Ski Program and Nursery provide the perfect solution for parents seeking skiing options for the whole family. The programs allow parents to explore the mountain while entrusting their children with quality ski instructors and nursery staff. Not only are the kids intensely supervised, but they're learning skills to enable them to join their parents on the mountain and enjoy skiing for a lifetime.

The nursery provides one caregiver for every two infants (two months to one year old) and one caregiver for up to five toddlers (one to three year olds). Day care is from 8am-4:30pm and includes healthy snacks in the morning and afternoon for toddlers along with lunch. Parents of infants should provide formulas, bottles and baby food. All nursery staff have reputable and documented child care experience, including CPR certification.

The Children's Program consists of over 50 instructors, many of them certified by the Professional Ski Instructors Association (PSIA). Located in the Le Chamonix building, the ski school uses a learning theme based on Tellurides' heritage of mining, Ute Indians and skiing. Telluride's instructors help children build their skiing level by integrating the region's history, flora, fauna and geography into every lesson. The program is open to 3- to 12-year-old kids and offers instruction in alpine and Nordic skiing, as well as snowboarding.

Group and private lessons, by the hour or by the day, are available for children of all ability levels. Baby-sitting services are also available for after ski care. In addition, the Telluride Ski School's complimentary Adventure Club provides supervision before and after ski school for children registered for full-day lessons. This supervised program includes transportation to and from the Coonskin chairlift from the Le Chamonix building and indoor/outdoor play.
