KEDRON VALLEY INN
South Woodstock, VT 05071
This 163-year-old former stagecoach stop was converted to a hotel in 1848. By the turn of the century it had become a center of activity for the thriving mill community of the time.
Now, many of the inn's rooms contain antique quilts, hand-stenciled walls, Franklin stoves or working fireplaces, four-poster canopy beds with chenille bedspreads and peony-patterned pastel sheets. These amenities give the inn the charm sought by refugees from the Big City.
The inn sits on 15 acres of extensively landscaped rolling foothills of the Green Mountains. There is a rural atmosphere on the premises, yet it is only 5 miles away from a very active art and theater community, specialty shops and a medley of outdoor sports and activities.
In the sunny peach and white dining room with its low, wood-beamed ceiling, guests eat the breakfast included in the room rates: buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, French toast, or an assortment of omelets with crisp bacon. At dinner the room is candlelit and the menu is "nouvelle Vermont." Dinner might include Kedron Valley Salmon wrapped in puff pastry with seafood mousse and Chocolate Decadence for dessert. Pastas, breads and desserts are made fresh daily. The wine list has won an Award of Excellence from The Wine Spectator.
The Kedron Valley Inn was voted the 1991 "Inn of the Year" by Pamela Lanier's Complete Guide to Bed and Breakfast Inns and Guesthouses in the United States and Canada.
