We are in the country and we are out for having fun, riding horses, hiking, fishing, and relaxing, along with enjoying the history, and the small part of our Ranch has played in Western history. All of our cabins are at least 50 years old and have been fully restored with modern kitchens and baths. Some of the cabins date to 1930, 1910, 1870 and 1859. One cabin may be from the 1720 to 1760 era. Our area was originally explored by the Spanish about 1540, and was actively mined by them until the 18th and 19th centuries. There are legends of billion dollar caches of gold still hidden in our high country, from these old mines. WINTER LOW SEASON [Please note that Christmas is High Season] The clear, crisp air of the Rockies, up on the Continental Divide, as snow envelopes enormous areas, freezing ponds and entire mountainsides, and providing landscapes as beautiful as any you've ever seen. Well, this ranch adjoins a 560,000-acre wilderness and a 2-million-acre National Forest. Weather permitting, you should see new vistas every day. "A step back in time" is the best way to describe our Lodge at the Lake and Colorado Tavern: hand-hewn beams, log doors, the flavor of a 19th-century hunting lodge, candle-light dining, a huge stone fireplace crackling with warmth, walls mirrored with cut glass from the 1853 Crystal Palace in London, the soft sound of billiards and a secluded antique library.
