WILDERNESS TRAILS RANCH
1766 County Road 302
Durango, CO 81301
Wilderness Trails Ranch is a very special place and offers a very special vacation. Our family and our staff are dedicated to making this your finest vacation ever. We are located 35 miles northeast of Durango, at 7600 feet, in spectacular southwestern Colorado, next to the state's largest wilderness area, the Weminuche. Unsurpassed beauty, seclusion, crisp mountain air and friendliness await your arrival.
The ranch accommodates approximately 50 guests in cozy, clean log cabins which are nestled among pines, spruce and aspen. King, queen and single beds plus shower-tub combinations make your stay pleasant and comfortable. Family units with two, three or five bedrooms are available, plus duplex cabins for couples or singles. The cook nighttime temperatures assure a good night's sleep.
In the Trading Post, our ranch store, we carry hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, candy, ice cream, fishing equipment and sundries. We even rent western boots for your convenience with sizes available for both children and adults.
The Guest Laundry helps to keep your packing of clothes to a minimum. The washers and dryers are coin operated and detergent is available at the Trading Post.
The Watering Hole is a great place to sit down and read a magazine in front of the crackling fire. You might also enjoy a card game or some conversation with friends. Every evening before dinner, we have a get-together where we serve chips and dips or hors d'oeuvres.
KIDS & TEENS
Families definitely love Wilderness Trails! The kids and teens have special programs to see that they have a busy, fun-filled week. Mom and dad needn't worry about the kids. We'll take very special care of them. You'll never hear your kids say "I'm bored" and you won't have to coax the little ones to get into bed at night.
Our children's program is for ages 2 through 11. The youngest ones, or the PONY EXPRESS, are from 2 to 5 years old. They enjoy their special counselor who takes them on a horse ride every morning and afternoon. This is closely supervised to make it a safe and fun experience. They also play in the tree house, sandbox and in the playground. Other activities include a hay ride with a marshmallow roast, hikes, picnics and crafts.
The 6 to 11 year olds are the SADDLE TRAMPS. They receive riding instructions daily and go out on carefully supervised trail rides with counselors skilled in teaching and handling young riders. They also have picnics, a hayride, crafts, games, fishing, archery, hiking and many other activities to keep them entertained and pleased.
FRONTIER DAY is for all the Pony Express and Saddle Tramps who become Indians for a day. Complete with headbands and warpaint, they travel to a secluded area for a cookout and tales of Indian lore.
One day each week, the TEENS visit Vallecity Lake for a special day of waterskiing, swimming, tubing, kneeboarding and enjoying the sunshine. Even if they choose to just relax on the ski dock, they love it!
You won't have more fun anywhere than you'll have during the evenings at Wilderness Trails Ranch. You might just like to relax around the fireplace in the Watering Hole, or join in our foot-stomping Square Dance. If you have never done a Do-Si-Do or a Grand Right-and-Left, don't worry, we'll show you how.
The Staff Show is a highlight of the week, with our crew changing into entertainers for the evening. Singing, dancing and a few surprises are sure to bring smiles, applause and laughter from the audience.
Bill Magic performs weekly and it's definitely an evening you can't miss. Bill has been entertaining longer than he cares to admit!
