NORTH FORK GUEST RANCH Box B Shawnee, Colorado 80475 (303) 838-9873 (303) 838-1549 Fax North Fork Guest Ranch is only an hour from Denver, yet they are secluded. The ranch adjoins a National Wilderness Area in the heart of the Rockies, near Vail, Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, Cripple Creek, Central City and Georgetown, with its narrow gauge train. Pick-up service from Denver International Airport is available. The facilities are on the gorgeous banks of the rushing North Fork of the South Platte River. The lodge offers comfortable rooms, each with carpeting and private bath. The Homestead Cabin and the Stonehenge offer family accommodations of two to three bedrooms, each with private bath - both have a common living room area with large stone fireplace, making each a unique treat. The Klondike cabin offers two 2-bedroom suites. Each has a fireplace, sitting area, cathedral ceiling and full bath. Everything you could want is included in one price. Great horseback riding, white water rafting, overnight pack trips, hiking, trap shooting, terrific fishing, and a variety of fun western activities like hayrides, square dancing and sing-a-longs. There is a fine string of horses, all well trained. The staff will help you select a horse that will suit your riding ability, and it will be yours to enjoy for the entire week. You begin with orientation and instruction, since many guests have done very little riding. Most of the rides will be into the high country wilderness where you will enjoy spectacular country seldom seen by others. You will be accompanied by experienced ranch wranglers who provide instruction throughout the week. Children ages 6 and up can go on the trail rides with the adults. The younger children will be treated to special rides by their counselors. No other area of the Rockies has such a diversity of wildlife - elk, deer, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, bear, mountain lions and beaver are all to be found in the area. Right out your back door is a half-mile of private river - the famous North Fork of the South Platte River. This was Eisenhower's favorite river for trout fishing--and no wonder. There is also a pond in which the kids are guaranteed to make a catch. An Orvis-endorsed fly fishing school is offered if fishing is your passion. Fishing gear is available at the ranch. Your catch will be smoked or cooked up fresh for you to enjoy. The raft trip is an experience you will never forget. Rafting is on an extraordinary stretch of the Arkansas River called Browns Canyon. There is no more exciting white water trip in the Rockies. You will be in 6-person rafts with a licensed boatman, for whom you will develop a great respect. Full attention is given to safety, and children 8 years and over are welcome to go. This trip combines the thrill of a roller coaster ride with incredible scenery. CHILDREN'S PROGRAM The children's program is designed for those under the age of 6 years old. Those 6 and over will be able to enjoy all the activities along with the adults. The younger children are fully supervised while parents are away taking part in ranch activities. When you return from an activity, the children are returned to your care. The kids are kept busy with numerous activities depending on their age. Infants are welcome and we do provide cribs. The children's counselors will do their best to maintain the children's nap and feeding schedules. Older children will enjoy the many activities organized by the counselors. These will include being led on horseback rides, taking nature hikes, fishing, games, and crafts like pressing flowers and making Indian vests. We also have a small petting farm where the children can enter the pen and get a 'hands on' experience. The children's counselors are carefully screened, as the ranch owners are also raising a young family and these counselors supervise their own children on occasion. As parents, they understand the anxiety of leaving a child with a "stranger." The counselors are college students with an interest in younger children, usually with an elementary education major or day care background. The counselors are first aid and lifeguard or water safety certified.
