Brown Palace Hotel, Denver

THE BROWN PALACE HOTEL 321 Seventeenth Street Denver, CO 80202 (303) 297-3111 (800) 321-2599 (303) 293-9204 Fax Work on The Brown Palace began in 1888. Edbrooke designed Brown's hotel in the Italian Renaissance style, using Colorado red granite and Arizona sandstone for the building's exterior. For a finishing touch, artist James Whitehouse was commissioned to create 26 medallions carved in stone, each depicting a native Rocky Mountain animal. The hotel's "silent guests" can still be seen between the seventh floor windows. The atrium lobby, with balconies rising 8 floors above ground is surrounded with cast iron railings with ornate grillwork patterns. Rich oriental carpets and red leather couches add to the lush atmosphere of the hotel's popular Afternoon Tea. Live piano music during Luncheon Tea and live harp music during Afternoon Tea add again to the delightful atmosphere. Delicious tea, scones, finger sandwiches and pastries are served in proper English style. The decor of the rooms is varied--some are Traditional, some are Art Deco, some are Victorian in style. All the rooms face the street. The Palace Arms, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, is known as much for its historic, formal setting as for its award-winning cuisine. The menu features both traditional favorites like Roasted Rack of Colorado Lamb and creative, contemporary offerings such as Lobster Enchiladas.
