MAUI PRINCE HOTEL 5400 Makena Alanui Kihei, Hawaii 96753 (808) 874-1111 (800) 321-6284 (808) 879-8763 Fax Nestled on a sandy beach in a secluded cove, the Maui Prince Hotel at Makena Resort offers the visitor Hawaii as it was meant to be-- private and beautiful--with golf, tennis, swimming, sailing and sunning in Hawaii's best climate. The 36-hole championship Makena Golf Courses are the creation of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Much of the natural setting has been worked into their design resulting in a stimulating course affording ocean vistas from virtually every fairway. Breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Haleakala Crater can be appreciated from the Makena Clubhouse where a pro shop, restaurant and locker rooms are located. The resort also has a 5-star award-winning tennis facility with six plexi-paved courts, including two lit for night play. Beautifully landscaped pathways lead to the two outdoor swimming pools, a fully-equipped ocean activities center and a serene quarter-mile white-sand beach. A sleek 46-foot sailing catamaran is available for snorkeling trips, sunset cruises and whale watching. The 304-room hotel includes 19 suites with panoramic views of the ocean and nearby islands of Molokini and Kahoolawe. The six-story V-shaped building embraces a central atrium courtyard with cascading waterfalls, rock gardens, streams, footbridges, stone lamps and exotic foliage. A 300,000-gallon fresh-water pond surrounds the courtyard with over 1,000 colorful Japanese koi. The open-air ceiling lobby is enhanced with warm teak paneling and teak furnishings. Colorfully woven custom-designed carpets highlight the pristine white tile floors. An original bronze sculpture and large original oil painting complete the lobby decor. Romantic candlelight, stunning views, teak and brass await you in the award-winning Prince Court restaurant. Chef Roger Dikon, an innovator of Hawaii Regional Cuisine, championed the use of produce from fertile upcountry Maui long before it became a trend. Dikon's Sunday brunches are legendary--both for quality and the invitation to excess. Two other exquisite restaurants, the Japanese Hakone restaurant and the open air Cafe Kiowai provide superb dining opportunities for guests. Evening brings the soothing sounds of classical strings wafting upward from the courtyard as the classical musicians entertain for the dinner hour. Guestrooms include oak furnishings and private lanais. All baths are spacious with tile floors, marble counters, large mirrors, special bath amenities and separate room commodes and telephones.
