Here's a quick list of some of the water-related activities and lodgings in the vicinity--from waterslides to nature tours.
WATER FUN at WISCONSIN DELLS
People were drawn to the south-central Wisconsin area of the Wisconsin Dells from the 1860s to enjoy the scenery and spectacular shorelines. The first tours were offered by DELLS BOAT CO. and were on river boats. From these roots, Wisconsin Dells has grown into a mecca of water-related activities.
Additional touring companies now include RIVERVIEW BOAT LINE and OLSON BOAT COMPANY, which offer scenic tours along the Wisconsin River. UPPER DELLS TOURS are 2-1/4 hour cruises which provide sightseers a picturesque view of the area. Boats make three shore landings during the tour, allowing visitors a closer view of famous rock formations such as Stand Rock and Witches Gulch.
A shorter alternative is the one hour LOWER DELLS TOURS. Singing guides transport visitors back in time through songs and stories which describe the area's colorful past, as well as the famous sandstone cliffs which line the tour route.
HOLIDAY SHORES BOAT RENTAL & MARINA and POINT BLUFF RESORT offer visitors the opportunity to discover the natural beauty of the area at their leisure. Point Bluff Resort canoe trips feature secluded destinations ideal for eagle watching. Holiday Shores rents boats and canoes to explore the river.
During 1956, tourists flocking to the Dells spawned the migration of additional attractions including the ORIGINAL WISCONSIN DUCKS, historical amphibious World War II vehicles which carry passengers on a one hour journey through 8 miles of scenic wilderness trails along the Wisconsin River and Lake Delton.
1979 saw the introduction of the first waterpark at Wisconsin Dells. The thrilling and exciting waterparks beckon vacationers across the Midwest to escape from the hot summer months. NOAH'S ARK WATERPARK, RIVERVIEW PARK & WATERWORLD and FAMILY LAND all offer unique outdoor water entertainment.
"Black Thunder," the newest addition to NOAH'S ARK WATERPARK was completed in 1995, further enlarging the nation's largest waterpark. This double-occupancy, fully enclosed water slide carries riders through crashes of thunder and strobe lightening before storming multiple twists and turns and plunging riders into a cool swimming pool. More improvements and renovations are in the work for this year.
RIVERVIEW PARK & WATERWORLD caters to the young, offering four children's activity pools and amusement rides. For an afternoon of fun, Riverview Park & Waterworld offers 30 different water activities as well as U'Drive'em cars. FAMILY LAND features an 85 foot plunge down "Demon's Drop," the world's steepest water slide. "Blue Magnum," a second of the many waterslides offered by Family Land, rockets adventurers through 2,000 feet of corkscrew turns and tunnels.
The success of the water-related activities proliferated the ever more water sports providers. Activities include fishing, swimming and dare-devil water sports. LAKE DELTON WATER SPORTS incorporates both excitement and scenic beauty by offering parasailing on Lake Delton. HOLIDAY SHORES BOAT RENTALS offers the fast paced excitement of wave runners and parasailing in the Wisconsin River.|
